Edible-nest swiftlet

Aerodramus salangana

The Edible-nest swiftlet is a small bird native to Southeast Asia. It is known for its unique nesting habit of using solidified saliva to construct its nests, which are harvested for their culinary and medicinal value. These swiftlets have a streamlined body, short legs, and long, narrow wings, enabling them to perform agile flight maneuvers. They are highly gregarious and often form large colonies in caves and other dark, secluded locations. Their high-pitched calls are a characteristic sound in the habitats they frequent, where they feed on aerial insects captured in flight.
