This species is known for its drumming behavior, using its bill to create rhythmic patterns on tree trunks to communicate with other woodpeckers. Elliot's Woodpecker primarily feeds on insects and larvae found beneath the bark of trees, using its strong bill to excavate its prey. Despite facing habitat loss and degradation, the conservation status of Elliot's Woodpecker is currently categorized as Least Concern by the IUCN.
