Emerald-chinned Hummingbird, Abeillia abeillei, breeds in Middle America from se Mexico to n Nicaragua and is found in humid montane forest, including evergreen and pine-evergreen woodland. It is the only species in its genus. The bird has a short, straight black bill, and the adult male shows metallic bronze-green upperparts, a white mark behind the eye, and a brilliant emerald-green chin and upper throat. Females are similar but lack the metallic throat. Two subspecies are recognised, with A. a. aurea smaller and more golden green than the nominate.
