Erckel's Francolin

Pternistis erckelii

Erckel's Francolin is a medium-sized bird native to the highlands of Ethiopia and Eritrea. It is known for its distinctive call, a series of loud, repetitive 'kut-kut-kut' sounds. This bird is primarily terrestrial, foraging for seeds, fruits, and insects in grassy and shrubby habitats. The plumage of Erckel's Francolin is characterized by a mottled pattern of brown, black, and white, providing effective camouflage in its natural environment. While the population trend is not well-documented, habitat loss and hunting pressure are potential threats to this species.
