Ethiopian Snipe

Gallinago undulata

The Ethiopian Snipe, or Gallinago undulata, is a medium-sized wader bird found in the highlands of Ethiopia. It is characterized by its mottled brown and buff plumage, long bill, and distinctive zigzag pattern on its back. These birds are typically found in wetlands, marshes, and grassy areas near water sources, where they forage for invertebrates and small insects. The Ethiopian Snipe is known for its aerial displays during the breeding season, where it produces a distinctive 'winnowing' sound with its tail feathers. While the population size of the Ethiopian Snipe is currently unknown, its habitat is threatened by wetland degradation and human encroachment.
