Eurasian blackbird

Turdus merula

The Eurasian blackbird, scientifically known as Turdus merula, is a medium-sized songbird found across Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It is known for its distinctive glossy black plumage and bright yellow eye-ring. The male has a melodious and fluting song, while the female has a more subdued and warbling call. Eurasian blackbirds are commonly found in woodlands, parks, gardens, and urban areas, where they forage for insects, earthworms, fruits, and berries. They build cup-shaped nests in trees or shrubs and are known for their adaptability to a wide range of habitats. Although the species is widespread and abundant, it faces threats from habitat loss and urbanization.
