Eurasian Collared Dove

Streptopelia decaocto

The Eurasian Collared Dove is a medium-sized, pale gray-buff dove with a distinctive black half-collar on the back of its neck. It is native to Asia and Europe but has successfully expanded its range to North America and other parts of the world. This species is known for its gentle cooing calls and is often found in urban and suburban areas. Eurasian Collared Doves are primarily seed-eaters but also consume fruits and grains. They build flimsy twig nests in trees and shrubs. Their population has rapidly increased in many regions, leading to concerns about their impact on native bird species.
