Sitta europaea
The Eurasian Nuthatch is a small passerine bird found in woodlands across Europe and Asia. It is known for its distinctive habit of climbing down tree trunks headfirst, aided by its strong legs and sharp claws. This bird has a blue-grey upper body, a white throat and belly, and a striking black eye stripe. It forages for insects and seeds in the bark of trees, using its long, sturdy bill to extract its prey. The Eurasian Nuthatch builds its nest in tree holes and crevices, often using mud to reduce the size of the entrance. It is a resident bird, rarely migrating, and is known for its loud, repetitive calls.
