Scolopax rusticola
The Eurasian Woodcock is a medium-sized wading bird found in woodlands and wetlands across Europe and Asia. It is known for its cryptic plumage, long bill, and distinctive probing feeding behavior. The woodcock is primarily nocturnal and crepuscular, using its excellent camouflage to blend into leaf litter during the day. Its breeding habitat includes damp, dense woodlands, and it feeds on earthworms, insects, and small invertebrates. The woodcock's mottled brown and buff plumage provides excellent camouflage in its woodland habitat. Despite being a game bird in some regions, the Eurasian Woodcock is not considered to be globally threatened and is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
