Chloris chloris (Linnaeus, 1758)

European Greenfinch, Chloris chloris, is a finch of woods, gardens and oases across the Palearctic, from the British Isles and northern Scandinavia east to north-west Kazakhstan, north Xinjiang and Krasnoyarsk, and south to Iberia, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Morocco, Tunisia, north-east Egypt, the Mediterranean, Turkey, Cyprus, the Levant, northern Iraq, northern Iran and the Altai region to south-east Kazakhstan. It is mainly resident, though some birds move away from the far north in winter. It is a passerine with a thick, conical bill, and the male shows a butterfly display flight.
