European Pied Flycatcher, Ficedula hypoleuca, is a passerine in the Muscicapidae family that breeds across much of Europe and the western Palearctic, and spends the non-breeding season in western Africa. It is one of the black-and-white flycatchers of the region and is known to hybridise to a limited extent with the Collared Flycatcher. The species usually nests in holes in oak trees. Described by Pallas in 1764, it is a migratory bird with a broad breeding range in the Palearctic.
