European Sand Martin

Riparia paludicola

The European Sand Martin is a small migratory bird known for its distinctive brown upperparts and white underparts. It is a member of the swallow family and is characterized by its agile flight and habit of nesting in colonies in sandy riverbanks and cliffs. These birds are insectivorous and can be found foraging over open water, marshes, and grasslands. The European Sand Martin is a common sight across Europe and parts of Asia and Africa, but faces threats from habitat loss and changes in insect populations due to climate change.
