European Serin

Serinus serinus (Linnaeus, 1766)

European Serin, Serinus serinus, is a finch of woods, gardens and scrub across the Palearctic and Africa, breeding from France and southern Scandinavia to north Estonia and far western Russia, and south through the Iberian Peninsula, the Canary Islands, Morocco, western Libya, Turkey and Cyprus. It is a short- to mid-distance migrant outside the breeding season. Its range is centred on temperate to subtropical areas, and it is the smallest member of the finch family. It was described by Linnaeus in 1766.
