Hesperiphona abeillei
The Evening Grosbeak is a strikingly colored finch with a heavy, conical bill. Males are bright yellow with black and white wing patches, while females are grayish with streaked underparts. They are known for their distinctive call and are often found in large flocks. Evening Grosbeaks are primarily seed-eaters, feeding on a variety of tree seeds, buds, and fruits. They are found in coniferous and mixed forests, as well as at bird feeders in winter. This species has experienced population declines in some areas, likely due to habitat loss and changes in food availability.
