Pachyptila turtur
The Fairy Prion, scientifically known as Pachyptila turtur, is a small seabird belonging to the prion family. These birds are characterized by their bluish-gray upperparts, white underparts, and a distinct dark M-shaped marking on their upperwings. They are highly gregarious, often forming large flocks at sea. Fairy Prions are pelagic birds, spending most of their lives on the open ocean, only returning to land to breed. They are skilled flyers and are known for their agile and graceful flight patterns. These birds feed primarily on small fish and squid, which they catch by plunge-diving into the water. The Fairy Prion is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN due to its large population and widespread distribution.
