Fairy Tern

Sternula nereis

The Fairy Tern (Sternula nereis) is a small, graceful seabird found in coastal regions of the tropical and subtropical Pacific and Indian Oceans. With a streamlined body, white plumage, and a distinctive black cap, this species is known for its elegant aerial acrobatics and agile hunting skills. Fairy Terns primarily feed on small fish and squid, which they catch by plunge-diving into the water. They nest in colonies on sandy beaches and islands, often in close proximity to other seabird species. Due to habitat loss, disturbance, and predation, the Fairy Tern faces conservation challenges in some regions.
