Phalacrocorax featherstoni
Featherstone's Shag is a species of cormorant found in the subantarctic islands of New Zealand. It is a medium-sized seabird with a glossy black plumage, a long slender neck, and a hooked bill. This species is known for its remarkable diving abilities, reaching depths of up to 60 meters in search of fish and marine invertebrates. Featherstone's Shags are colonial breeders, nesting on coastal cliffs and rocky ledges. They are often seen in close proximity to the sea, where they forage for food. Despite their relatively small population size, they are not currently considered to be at risk of extinction.
