Ferruginous Hawk

Buteo albigula

The Ferruginous Hawk (Buteo albigula) is a large raptor found in western North America. It is known for its striking rusty-red plumage, particularly on the shoulders and legs. This bird of prey is often seen soaring over open grasslands and prairies, using its keen eyesight to spot small mammals such as ground squirrels and rabbits. The Ferruginous Hawk builds its nest on cliffs or in tall trees, and it is known for its impressive aerial displays during courtship. Despite being a powerful predator, the Ferruginous Hawk faces threats from habitat loss and human disturbance.
