Ferruginous Laughingthrush

Garrulax ferrarius

The Ferruginous Laughingthrush (Garrulax ferrarius) is a medium-sized bird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It is known for its distinctive loud and melodious calls, often heard in the early morning and late afternoon. This species has a striking appearance, with a rusty-brown plumage, a black mask around the eyes, and a white throat. They are social birds, often seen in small groups foraging for insects, fruits, and seeds on the forest floor. The Ferruginous Laughingthrush is highly territorial during the breeding season and builds cup-shaped nests in dense vegetation. While not currently classified, their populations are believed to be declining due to habitat loss and fragmentation.
