Field Sparrow

Spizella pusilla (Wilson, A, 1810)

Field Sparrow, Spizella pusilla, is a passerine of the family Passerellidae that breeds from south-eastern Canada through central and eastern USA, and moves as far as north-eastern Mexico outside the breeding season. It is a New World sparrow with a broad eastern range. Its plumage is variable, with one form looking greyer and another more rufous. The head shows a grey tone with a rust-coloured crown, a white eye-ring and a pink bill, while the upperparts are brown with black and buff streaking. The breast is buff, the belly white, and the tail forked.
