Spizella pusilla
The Field Sparrow (Spizella pusilla) is a small, distinctive sparrow species found in open grassy areas, brushy fields, and woodland edges across eastern North America. It is characterized by its pink bill, plain grayish-brown plumage, and a pinkish bill. Field Sparrows are known for their sweet, melodic songs that can be heard during the breeding season. They forage on the ground for seeds, insects, and small fruits. Their nests are often found on the ground or low in shrubs, constructed with grasses and twigs. While they are relatively common, habitat loss and fragmentation pose threats to their populations.
