Fiery-capped Manakin, Machaeropterus pyrocephalus, is a passerine of Amazonia in South America, occurring in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. It is a member of the Pipridae. The bird is named for the male’s crown, which is golden with a red stripe through the middle, while the rest of the face is olive. The species lives in humid primary and secondary forest and woodland, using both interior and edge habitats. It is a year-round resident and feeds on small fruits, especially those of Melastomataceae, as well as small insects.
