Fiery-throated Fruiteater

Pipreola riefferii

The Fiery-throated Fruiteater (Pipreola riefferii) is a striking bird found in the highland forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. This species is known for its vibrant plumage, including a fiery red throat, iridescent green and blue upperparts, and a bright yellow belly. The Fiery-throated Fruiteater primarily feeds on fruits and insects, foraging in the canopy of cloud forests. It is often observed in small groups or pairs. The species is known for its melodious and varied vocalizations, adding to the enchanting atmosphere of its montane habitat. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to its populations.
