Fiji Goshawk

Accipiter ventralis

The Fiji Goshawk (Accipiter ventralis) is a small to medium-sized bird of prey endemic to the islands of Fiji. It is characterized by its short wings and long tail, which enable it to maneuver swiftly through dense forest canopies in pursuit of its prey. This bird primarily feeds on small birds, insects, and lizards. The Fiji Goshawk is known for its distinctive call, a high-pitched whistle that echoes through the forest. Due to habitat loss and predation by invasive species, the population of the Fiji Goshawk is declining, and it is classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
