Pyrope pyrope (Kittlitz, 1830)
Fire-eyed Diucon, Pyrope pyrope, is a passerine of Chile and south-western Argentina in South America, with a breeding range that reaches from northern Chile and west-central Argentina to Cape Horn. It is the only species in Pyrope. The bird is known for its bright red iris, which gives it its English name. It also has a black bill and dark legs and feet. The sexes look alike, and juveniles have a brown iris. A second form, P. p. fortis, occurs on Chiloé Island and is larger and darker than the nominate race.
