Fire-tailed Sunbird

Pyrope pyrope

The Fire-tailed Sunbird (Pyrope pyrope) is a small passerine bird found in the eastern Himalayas and parts of Southeast Asia. This stunning bird is known for its vibrant plumage, with the male sporting a fiery red-orange tail that contrasts with its metallic green and blue body. The female is more subtly colored, with olive-green upperparts and a yellowish underside. Fire-tailed Sunbirds are nectar feeders and play an important role in pollination within their montane forest habitats. They are often seen flitting among flowering plants, using their slender, curved bills to extract nectar. These sunbirds are known for their acrobatic flight and melodious calls.
