Vidua fischeri
Fischer's Paradise Whydah (Vidua fischeri) is a small, sexually dimorphic bird species found in eastern Africa. The male is known for its striking breeding plumage, which includes a long, black tail and vibrant red and black colors. During the breeding season, the male performs elaborate courtship displays to attract females. The female, in contrast, has a more inconspicuous appearance, with a brownish-grey plumage. This species is a brood parasite, laying its eggs in the nests of other bird species, particularly waxbills. Fischer's Paradise Whydahs are often found in open grasslands, savannas, and agricultural areas, where they forage for seeds and insects. Due to habitat loss and potential impacts of agricultural practices, their conservation status is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
