Fitzpatrick's barbet

Capito fitzpatricki

Fitzpatrick's barbet (Capito fitzpatricki) is a medium-sized bird found in the humid montane forests of the Andes in South America. It has a distinctive appearance with a black head, bright red throat, and a vibrant green body. This species is known for its unique call, a series of melodious whistles and trills. Fitzpatrick's barbet forages for fruits, insects, and small vertebrates in the forest canopy. It nests in tree cavities and is often seen in small family groups. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, this species is vulnerable to population declines.
