Flame Bowerbird

Sericulus ardens

The Flame Bowerbird (Sericulus ardens) is a striking bird found in the rainforests of New Guinea. The male Flame Bowerbird is known for its vibrant plumage, with a bright orange-red body and a striking golden-yellow crest. It is renowned for its intricate courtship behavior, where the male creates and decorates an elaborate bower with colorful objects to attract females. The female, in contrast, has more subdued plumage, with olive-green and brown tones that provide excellent camouflage in the dense forest. Flame Bowerbirds primarily feed on fruits, insects, and small vertebrates, and play an important role in seed dispersal within their habitat.
