Flame Robin

Petroica phoenicea

The Flame Robin (Petroica phoenicea) is a small passerine bird native to Australia. It is easily recognized by its striking plumage, with males displaying a bright flame-orange breast and throat, while females and juveniles have more subdued coloring. These birds are typically found in open woodlands, heathlands, and grasslands, where they forage for insects and occasionally feed on nectar. Flame Robins are known for their perky and inquisitive behavior, often perching prominently to survey their surroundings. They are migratory birds, with populations in the southern parts of Australia moving north during the winter months. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and climate change, the Flame Robin's conservation status is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
