Flame-throated Bulbul

Rubigula gularis (Gould, 1836)

Flame-throated Bulbul, Rubigula gularis, is a passerine bulbul of the forests of the Western Ghats in southern India, within its breeding range in the Oriental Region. It is the state bird of Goa. The bird is marked by a triangular orange-red throat, a white iris, and a black head that contrasts with its other plumage. It was once treated as part of Pycnonotus flaviventris, but is now recognised as a separate species. Earlier names have also been used for it, though some of these have been applied to other bulbuls.
