Flame-throated Sunangel

Heliangelus micraster Gould, 1872

Trochilidae — Hummingbirds

Flame-throated Sunangel, Heliangelus micraster, is a hummingbird of Ecuador and Peru in South America, where it breeds in the Andes. It was described by Gould in 1872. The species is tied to dense mossy forest, especially its interior and edges, and is usually found at 2,300 to 3,400 m, though it has also been recorded lower. It is a small hummingbird with a straight blackish bill and dark metallic green upperparts. Adult males show a glittering blue-green frontlet and an iridescent yellow-orange gorget, while females lack the frontlet and have a white throat.
