Flammulated Owl, Psiloscops flammeolus, breeds across North America and Middle America from southern Canada to southern Mexico. It is an owl in the family Strigidae and was described by Kaup in 1852. The species is the only one in Psiloscops. It is a migratory bird, with breeding birds leaving Canada and the United States in autumn and returning in late April and early May. Its name refers to the flame-like patterning on the face. It nests in tree cavities, usually in old woodpecker or northern flicker holes, and the nest is left bare.
