Florida Scrub-Jay

Aphelocoma coerulescens

The Florida Scrub-Jay is a medium-sized, non-migratory bird found in Florida's scrub habitats. It is known for its bold and curious nature, often approaching humans. This species has a striking blue plumage on its head, wings, and tail, with a grayish-brown back and underparts. Florida Scrub-Jays are highly social and live in family groups, with each group defending a territory year-round. Their diet consists of acorns, insects, and small vertebrates. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Florida Scrub-Jay faces threats to its survival.
