Forbes's Plover

Charadrius forbesi

Forbes's Plover (Charadrius forbesi) is a small shorebird found in the coastal regions of East Africa. It has a distinctive black and white plumage, with a black crown and nape, white forehead and supercilium, and a black breast band. This species is known for its agile foraging behavior, running along the water's edge to catch small invertebrates. Forbes's Plover nests on sandy or muddy flats near water and is often found in estuaries, lagoons, and coastal wetlands. It is a highly territorial species, vigorously defending its nesting territory from intruders. The conservation status of Forbes's Plover is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN due to habitat loss and disturbance.
