Forest Batis

Batis dimorpha

The Forest Batis (Batis dimorpha) is a small passerine bird found in the forests and woodlands of eastern and southern Africa. It is characterized by its distinctive black and white plumage, with a black head, wings, and tail, and a white belly and underparts. The male and female have similar plumage, with the male being slightly larger. These birds are known for their agile and acrobatic flight, often catching insects in mid-air. They primarily feed on insects and small invertebrates, foraging in the lower and middle levels of the forest canopy. The Forest Batis is known for its melodious and varied song, often heard during the breeding season. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential future threats to this species.
