Forest Flycatcher

Platysteira tonsa

The Forest Flycatcher (Platysteira tonsa) is a small passerine bird found in the forests and woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa. It is known for its distinctive white eye-ring and habit of perching in the understory, where it feeds on insects by making short aerial sallies. This species is sexually dimorphic, with the male having a glossy blue-black plumage and the female being predominantly olive-green. The Forest Flycatcher is known for its melodious and repetitive song, often heard during the breeding season. It is a monogamous species, building cup-shaped nests in dense vegetation. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential concerns for its future.
