Forest Owlet

Dendronanthus indicus

The Forest Owlet (Dendronanthus indicus) is a small, elusive owl species found in central India. It is characterized by its distinctively large, round head, and prominent yellow eyes. The plumage is a mix of brown, grey, and white, providing excellent camouflage in its woodland habitat. This species is known for its secretive nature, making it a challenging sight for birdwatchers. The Forest Owlet is primarily found in dry deciduous forests and scrublands, where it preys on insects, small mammals, and birds. Due to habitat loss and degradation, the population of Forest Owlets is declining, leading to its classification as Endangered by the IUCN.
