Fox Sparrow

Passerella iliaca

The Fox Sparrow is a medium-sized sparrow found in North America. It has a robust build, with a rounded tail and a thick bill. Its plumage varies greatly across its range, but generally includes a mix of reddish-brown, gray, and white feathers. This bird is known for its beautiful, melodic song, which it often sings from a hidden perch on the forest floor. The Fox Sparrow is primarily a ground forager, feeding on seeds, insects, and berries. It prefers dense undergrowth in forests, thickets, and shrubby areas, and can also be found in parks and gardens. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential threats to this species.
