Fraser's Eagle-Owl, Ketupa poensis, breeds across forested parts of tropical Africa from Sierra Leone to Uganda, central DR Congo and northern Angola, with another population in north-east Tanzania. It is an owl of the family Strigidae. The bird was first described by Fraser in 1854. It is a relatively small eagle-owl with fluffy ear-tufts and a facial disc edged in dark. Its plumage is rufous and buff-brown above, with barred wings and tail, and paler underparts. The Tanzanian form shows heavier breast markings and broader spacing in the barring below.
