Caprimulgidae — Nightjars

Freckled Nightjar, Caprimulgus tristigma, is a nightjar of Africa, breeding widely across the continent. It is a member of the Caprimulgidae and was described by Rüppell in 1840. The species is found in scattered local populations across sub-Saharan Africa, with fewer records in the west and more regular occurrence in the east. In southern Africa it remains present all year in colder, drier areas. Its plumage is well suited to rocky ground, where it is strongly camouflaged.
