Frilled Coquette

Augastes scutatus

The Frilled Coquette is a striking hummingbird species found in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. This small bird is known for its distinctive frilled neck feathers and vibrant iridescent plumage. The male has a brilliant green throat and crown, while the female has a white belly and green upperparts. These birds are often found in the understory of humid forests, where they feed on nectar from flowers and small insects. They are known for their agile flight and high-pitched vocalizations. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Frilled Coquette is considered vulnerable to extinction.
