Fuegian Steamer Duck, Tachyeres pteneres, is a flightless duck in the Anatidae family and the order Anseriformes. It breeds in coastal southern Chile and southern Argentina. The species is found on rocky shores and offshore islands, and when nesting it also uses sheltered bays and lakes farther inland. It is the largest of the steamer ducks and cannot fly because its wings are too small for that purpose. Instead, it uses them to help move quickly across the water’s surface.
