Hylopezus perspicillatus
The Fulvous-bellied Antpitta is a small, terrestrial bird found in the understory of humid montane forests in the Andes of South America. It is characterized by its brown upperparts, fulvous underparts, and distinct black streaking on the throat and breast. This species forages on the forest floor for insects and small invertebrates, often remaining hidden amidst the dense vegetation. Its haunting, whistled song can be heard echoing through the misty cloud forests where it resides. Due to its specific habitat requirements and localized distribution, the Fulvous-bellied Antpitta may be vulnerable to habitat loss and degradation.
