Galapagos Dove

Galapagos Dove, Zenaida galapagoensis, is a pigeon in the Galápagos, where it breeds across South America in the archipelago’s islands. It was described by Gould in 1841. The bird is tied to rocky lowlands and also uses scattered trees, bushes and cacti. Its most notable feature is its long, slightly downcurved black bill. It occurs in open and partly open country, with a strong link to the dry lowlands. Two subspecies are recognised, one on the main islands apart from Darwin and Wolf, and another restricted to those two islands.
