Pterodroma phaeopygia

The Galapagos Petrel (Pterodroma phaeopygia) is a seabird endemic to the Galapagos Islands, known for its long wings and graceful flight. These birds are predominantly dark in color, with a white patch on the underwing. They are skilled oceanic flyers, often seen gliding over the open sea. Galapagos Petrels are nocturnal, returning to their nesting sites under the cover of darkness. They breed in the highlands of the Galapagos Islands, nesting in burrows. Their diet consists mainly of fish and squid, which they catch by plunge-diving. Threats to the species include introduced predators and habitat destruction.
