Gang-gang Cockatoo

Callocephalon fimbriatum

The Gang-gang Cockatoo is a distinctive species of cockatoo native to southeastern Australia. It is easily recognized by the striking red head and crest of the male, while the female has a dark grey head. These birds are often found in mountain forests and woodlands, where they forage for seeds, fruits, and insects. They are known for their distinctive call, which sounds like a creaky gate. The Gang-gang Cockatoo is a relatively small and stocky cockatoo, with a body length of about 30-36 cm. Despite being locally common, their population is declining due to habitat loss and other threats.
