Garden Emerald, Chlorostilbon assimilis, is a hummingbird of south-western Costa Rica and Panama, where it occurs in Middle America. It was described by Lawrence in 1861 and belongs to the family Trochilidae. The species is found in lowland areas, including open woodland edges, hedgerows, streamside thickets, scrub, and gardens. It is also recorded from the Pacific coast and from Coiba and Pearl islands. The Garden Emerald is generally sedentary, though movements between mainland Panama and nearby islands have been reported.
