Geelvink Pygmy Parrot

The Geelvink Pygmy Parrot, also known as the Geelvink Parrot or Geelvink Pygmy Parakeet, is a small parrot species native to the islands of Biak and Numfor in Indonesia. These parrots are characterized by their vibrant green plumage, with males displaying a red patch on their crown. They have a specialized diet consisting of fruits, seeds, and insects. Geelvink Pygmy Parrots are typically found in lowland forests and forest edges, where they forage for food and nest in tree cavities. Due to habitat loss and capture for the pet trade, their populations are declining, and they are classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
