Geoffroy's Daggerbill

Schistes geoffroyi (Bourcier, 1843)

Trochilidae — Hummingbirds

Geoffroy's Daggerbill is a hummingbird of the Andes in eastern Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and central Bolivia. It lives in dense cloudforest, using both the interior and the margins, and is usually found between 900 and 2,300 m, with records higher than that in Ecuador and south-eastern Peru. Its bill is very narrow and sharply pointed, a feature that gives the bird its name, though it is not easy to pick out in the field. The species has two subspecies, with the nominate form and S. g. chapmani differing in throat pattern.
