Giant Scops Owl, Otus gurneyi, is an owl of the Philippines, breeding in Samar, Dinagat, Siargao and Mindanao. It belongs to the family Strigidae and was described by Tweeddale in 1879. This bird is set apart by its place in the group, sitting between a scops owl and an eagle-owl in size and structure. It is associated with tropical moist lowland forest, and also uses primary and secondary woodland, including some partly logged forest. It has been recorded below 670 m and as high as 1,300 m.
